Rules Query

I haven't been able to find and answer to this question, thus I must defer to the gestalt wisdom accessed through this medium.

If a model in the middle of mele is hit and knocked-down by close combat, a second adjacent enemy model may rule to hit or wound as normal and the target would take subsequent damage.

If a model is stunned and either still in base contact or charged by an enemy model, the enemy only has to roll to hit to put the target out of action.

So far so good?

My question regards combined missle/mele attacks: can a model stunned or knocked down in close combat then be put out of action in that same turn by a subsequent succesful h and w rolls from a missile weapon? And what if the model was wounded by an arrow first and then wounded by a hand weapon?

I can't really imagine why either of these sequences would be disallowed.

Mordheim

Too many projects none yet finished enough to share. But Rob and I are dusting off the cardstock ruins and freshening up warbands. Matt has been informed but hasn't responded, and we need a fourth (I'm beating the bushes).

The tune-up a couple of weeks ago was a fiasco, having forgotten more than I could remeber about the rules and mechanics of the game. Rob opened the zombie corral, and well, I couldn't just wait around could I? So I played like a Greenskin, got stuck in . . . and eaten alive. The Orcish bellows of surprise and rage could be heard ll the way to Welborn (and thatsa fer piece).
Rob had a cool new strategy to test and a very jammy dice bag. I had unimaginative (but characterful!) brute force, blunt objects and too much animosity.

I ain't skeered. I gots a cunnin' plan. Anyway, his vampire is a weedy, buck-toothed git.

No special rules decided so far, other than no voluntary Matt tests (sorry, did I say that out loud? I meant rout tests, of course) will be allowed.

AT-43 in San Angelo

Hey everyone,

The big project recently started by the West Texas Wargames Association (of which I am a member) is the game AT-43.  The minis are prepainted and plastic, but they are nice molds, and mine repainted fairly well, I think.  Actually I just gussied up the armor with a peat wash from Winsor Newton to make them look dirty and greasy.  The infantry got pretty much the full works, though.

Here the infantry, the "Kolossus" units, and the Nakolvany strider (the big one) are taking to the street.

Closeup on my infantry, which are the elite Spetznaz commandos.  My force is the Red Blok, which are kind of neo-soviets.  The "Collective" that my particular force comes from is called "Frontline," a kind of ideal socialist state of the Red Blok.

Here the Nakolvany comes down an alley while the Spetznaz open fire.

Closeup on the Spetznaz commander firing over a small wall.

The armor moves out.  The smaller ones are the Kolossus units.  Each of these has rocket launchers, and the Strider (the big one) has anti-intantry weapons.

Side view of the Spetznatz taking the library, which some of you will remember was the location where many a Mordheimer has died...

Spetznaz on the roof and in front of the library.  The guy on the far right on the roof has the flamer - characteristic of the Spetznaz commandos.  I think I need a groundcloth that is not gray -- too much gray here.

My unit is nicknamed "The Children of the Hammer," and the leader has the hammer insignia on his shoulder armor.  A little hard to make out here.

The Kolossus units flood out into the street, rockets blazing!

Big group shot.  This is the whole force coming out to assault.  I have a few more models on the way (how could I have passed up on the sales?), and so I will have two more striders and another unit of three Kolossus (these with grenade launchers and flamers.  The hope is that the game plays OK after all of this, but they are nice minis anyways.  I am also lucky that Mike has decided to invest in some of the enemies of the Red Blok - the Therians.

Battletech game in San Angelo

Hey everyone,

I know most of you don't play Battletech, but I played a game last weekend, and I thought I would post a very brief AAR. Battletech is really a boardgame, but we used the miniatures conversion to play out this accidental meeting of recon 'Mechs, which are light and fast. Mine were lighter and much faster, while Mike had one fast one and two that were heavier and/or made for combat. I also had two 'Mechs, an Assassin and a Clint, which had long range weapons. His 'Mechs didn't have the range, but dealt much more damage, esp. his Hunchback, which could potentially take out one of my 'Mechs with just one shot.

Here my Assassin takes cover behind a hill and uses long range missiles to pepper the advancing force. My Cicada (in foreground) had only short-range lasers, and so ran a flanking move from the start (see below).

His Panther found its way into some woods, but had engine damage by the time he got in there, thanks to the long range weapons of the Assasssin and the Clint.
Because this Hunchback of his could basically disable or destroy any 'Mech it hit, I ran a run and gun tactic. The Clint held the middle while the Assassin fakes right and the Cicada went around the left flank. My Assassin was then fast enough to join the Clin and follow the Cicada onto the left flank while his slower 'Mechs were forced to adjust, those on the refused flank with no one to face whil mine teamed up on the isolated Hermes that he had stationed on that flank. Above is the Hunchback, lumbering along just out of range for the big gun.

Here the Cicada and the Clint close in on the Hermes, and just after this the Assassin closed on this flank as well. They hit the Hermes with everything they had, but (despite a potentially crippling shot to the head), the Hermes slipped away, and my 'Mechs gave chase.

My tactic was working pretty well, I think, and I had damaged the Hermes and was closing in for a kill on the Panther, which was caught in the woods with an overheating engine. Unfortunately, I got over eager, and the Hunchback was able to wade into the woods and fire at the Cicada on the one round that I didn't stay out of his range. The Hunchback completely blew through the ecenter of the Cicada, killing the 'Mech (although the pilot, Bram Stein, lived through the attack). This changed the game, as my opponent took advantage of this turn of events and pressed his advantage. Now outgunned and in bad position, my two remaining 'Mechs surrendered the field in return for the safe return of their comrade.

All in all it was a really fun a technical game. We both knew that my tactic could work, but if I made any mistakes he could take advantage if he was in a good position. Most of the game was positioning and sniping, and we both had a great time. Lots of folks have very good complaints about Battletech, but I think it is a real good time.

Lizardman alternatives

For all those who love lizzies (that's you John!) here's a site with some alternative sculpts of minis that can be used to play many different roles.

Ok guys,

Check these new PLASTIC Pike and Shot minis. They are still in the early stages, but historical plastic is slowly becoming a reality!

So, I have not had a ton of time to devote to painting as I have a deadline at the end of this month. However, I have had time here and there. So, I thought I would post a couple of WIP pics. First up, is the interior of my speeder which I am pretty happy with. I am working on a torso and arm separately before I put the top on.

After that is a pic of Space Marine Tactical Unit. It shows figs you have already seen. But, more importantly, those initial three have three buddies who are close to being finished and two more have at least had their 65 coats of red applied. ;)

And finally, I have continued to work on the basement room that holds my gaming table. I have basically moved in my terrain operation. There are a number of toys in various stats of operation. I have been salvaged broken toys for terrain. I have a lot of pieces now but it is not as easy as I had hoped to assemble. I need to make some bigger pieces and not sure what I should do. Debris fields or piles are one thing. What should the core terrain be....

Notice also the "Al Franken for Senate" signs in the corner. I picked those souvenirs up at a wedding in Minnesota in October. Who would have thought the election was still going!

FFG Confrontation and AT-43 sale

Hi guys! This is irrelevant to me (since I cannot order anything) but it might be interesting to ya'll. FFG is having a big sale on its two most basic miniatures lines. This is a great chance to buy some very high quality prepainted minis!

Mordheim: Undead

Hi folks,

Thought I'd post, it's been a while since I've shown anything. One of our fellow gamers and I recently sat down to a game of Mordheim: Undead Vs. Orks. I just started a little undead warband based on the idea that w/ a Vampire count, a necromancer, and a hoard of zombies (13, 15 in total) the zombies, who have a crappy ws but cost very little and have great special rules, I might just be able to win games. Especially if the necromancer gains the spell that raises zombies. The tactic: keep the hoard in open spaces and let the opposing warband walk into a mob of undead brain eaters. It sort of worked. I was lucky w/the dice, really. So, I can't be sure.

Anyway here's a shot of the vampire count. It's a Necharch model from an older range of vampire counts for WFB.
