During our all-too-brief day of gaming with Southpaw, there was some discussion of inspirational 40K websites. Surprisingly, not everyone had heard of my favorites, so here they are to impel you on to new heights of painting, conversion, and terrain building.
Dakkadakka has a large number of forums; the painting and modeling blog section is a treasure trove of project insanity. Want to see a guy pain-stakingly modeling plasticard exosuits onto Space Marines? Ever wondered what a battle group of 20 Baneblades looks like on one table? Thinking about scratch-building a Titan out of foamcore, greenstuff, and your own saliva? This is the place for you. More importantly, you'll find a large number of much more reasonable conversion projects and painting ideas from people at every level of skill.
For terrain ideas, you can't beat Terragenesis. Site members not only post their works in progress, but often provide articles detailing projects from inspiration through completion. While 40K terrain is featured, you will also find people creating scenery for almost any other game you can imagine. The site's themed monthly building contest is a particularly effective motivator to tinker with your bits box.
Enjoy!

I lost those links the first time you emailed them to me and was about to email you again asking for them. Your ears must have been burning. I really like the Terragenesis site. Fantastic stuff. You probably should have held off giving me those links until after tenure though.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sherwood! Those are great sites, but bad for my smug. I like looking at stuff like that, though, because they always make it seem like there is lots of room to up my game.
